2014 Aluvión Malbec Reserva "El Fenix"

$80.00

PRODUCTION

Super premium limited release.

We delayed harvest in 2014 to achieve fresher and more complex profile for the wine. We also matured this 90% Malbec, 10% Cab Franc wine in a combination of new and second use French oak barrels. The result is an intense and full-bodied wine, which will drink well now and for many years to come.

In 2019, this wine survived untouched by a fire driven by local Zonda winds down the East side of the Andes Mountains.  We thought it fit to name this wine for its long-lasting nature (not quite as long as the Phoenix bird was rumoured to live) and its metaphorically renewed life.

TASTING NOTES

The Malbec wine is medium ruby red.  It presents as elegant, with red fruit like plum and currant, with delicate black pepper and vanilla. It has a round, fresh and soft palate with gentle tannins. The wine is elegant with a long-lasting finish.  It is enjoying further maturation as it ages in the bottle.

As with most Malbec wines, we recommend decanting for up to 30 minutes and serving at a temperature of 16-18 degrees Celsius (61 - 64.5 degrees Fahrenheit).
