Our Story

Aluvión Vineyards was founded in 2007 as a premium boutique wine producer.  It originated when two couples - Robert Kramer and Joanna Stevens and Ed Lang and Catherine Balsam-Schwaber - fell in love with both Argentina and its celebrated wine while traveling the country together the year before. We shared a dream to produce small quantities of super-premium, full-bodied, elegant wines that would be savoured for years to come. 

After labouring over and perfecting our wine, we released our first vintage - a 2010 Malbec  - which was awarded a Silver Medal in the San Francisco International Wine Competition. Other vintages were soon to follow and we have gradually expanded the styles of wine we make and sell to include Malbec, Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc. Cabernet Franc is coming soon.


The Vineyard



We have a 10 acre vineyard in Argentina’s Uco Valley, nestled at 1,036 metres (3,398 ft) in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. We grow predominantly Malbec, the grape for which Argentina is most renowned, as well as some Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. We use only the best grapes to make our wine and sell the remainder to local winemakers.

Through an arrangement with the Vines of Mendoza, Aluvión benefits from the resources and management of some of the most qualified and respected vintners in Argentina, including consulting wine maker Santiago Achával of Achaval- Ferrer, one of the highest regarded winemakers in the world.


The Uco Valley

The Valle de Uco is a place of majestic beauty and one of the most picturesque wine growing regions in the world.  It sits approximately one hour south of the city of Mendoza, Argentina's wine growing capital, and below a particularly scenic stretch of the Andes Mountains.

The valley encompasses some of the highest altitude Argentine vineyards averaging between 900 and 1,200 metres (2,950 - 3,930 feet) above sea level.  The combination of high elevation, alluvial soils, pristine water sourced from the Andes, a long growing season with over 250 sunny days a year, little rain, and the extreme contrast between warm days and cool nights are all conducive to growing wine grapes of excellent quality.

This unique terroir provides excellent fruit ripening and concentration, resulting in wines that are deep in colour with intense aromas and rich in flavours, as well as being ideal for aging.

As a result, the region draws winemakers from all over the world, including Michel Rolland, who produces his own label and consults to other wineries.
